Jackie Johnson served as District Attorney of the Brunswick Judicial Circuit, the office with jurisdiction over the 2020 killing of Ahmaud Arbery. She was later charged with violating her oath of office and hindering the police investigation into that killing.
Brian Steel was part of her defense, working alongside other counsel. In February 2025 a judge dismissed both charges against her.
